Each suite in the building is equipped with 2 or more smoke detectors.
Smoke is just a cloud of ultra-fine particles floating in the air …so it’s important to understand that a smoke detector can also be triggered by dust, powder or even steam. This means you must always be mindful of the smoke detectors and be aware that they can be accidentally activated with steam from a kettle, by burning the toast or by cutting through gyprock walling when undertaking renovations.
Once a smoke detector is triggered, the NSW Fire Brigade WILL BE CALLED. This is an automatic process designed for your safety and the safety of your neighbours. The NSW Fire Brigade currently levy a bill of $1,720 for attending a “false alarm” event and this charge will be billed back to the “offender”.
Tip
If you know that some activity in your suite might generate smoke, steam or dust you will need to either call Storm Fire Solutions to temporarily “isolate” your detectors -or- carefully cover your smoke detectors by taping a plastic bag over each one. Of course this must only be used as a temporary measure (up to 24 hours). For your safety (and the safety of your neighbours) it’s important to ensure your detectors are fully operation and not isolated or covered up for any longer than absolutely necessary.
